Job Overview:

We’re looking for a marketing and public relations strategist to help Capture Sports Marketing and our clients focus on raising awareness of their personal brands and careers in the sports industry, but also raising funds for the charitable causes they support. The strategist will develop strategic, integrated plans in collaboration with the senior director of marketing and PR and other agency directors. The strategist will have experience to independently execute local and national media relations; content strategy and development for a wide variety of channels and social media programs, as well as be proficient in gathering and analyzing data to optimize public relations and marketing efforts.

Responsibilities on behalf of the agency and clients:

  • Brand and communications strategy:
    • Assist senior director of marketing and PR to develop strategic brand, annual and campaign plans
    • Ensure all tactical ideas and execution align with plan objectives
    • Proactively share new ideas and make recommendations that help clients’ and Capture Sports’ business
  • Media relations:
    • Conduct media relations with national, local and sports-industry print and broadcast outlets, which may include creating media lists, developing story angles, drafting media pitches, writing news releases and coordinating interviews
    • Work with marketing and PR coordinator to use Cision and Meltwater
  • Content development:
    • Write key messaging and content for omni-channel use
      • Examples: blog posts, e-newsletters, e-blasts, event scripts, spokesperson talking points and radio public service announcement scripts
    • Understand and apply best practices for writing for websites (e.g., SEO, UX)
    • Use AP Style and be a proofreader for the agency’s team
  • Social media:
    • Experience with Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Pinterest, as well as with social contests, ad buys and content boosting
    • Manage online communities
  • Analytics:
    • Review and develop reports on metrics from media coverage, social media, online and e-communications
    • Make recommendations to optimize channel mix and content to increase awareness and engagement


  • Five to six years of progressive marketing and public relations experience
  • Experience with a range of external strategies, including digital communications, social media and media relations
  • Ability to collect and analyze relevant data to optimize programs
  • Examples of creative ideas that yielded results
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate with a team to do excellent work and get results
  • Excellent writing and editing abilities
  • A bachelor’s degree
